We understand the importance of clear and transparent pricing, and we strive to provide that. While some companies advertise "everything's a £1" or "PAT testing from only 50p" , these offers often come with hidden conditions or are unsustainable in the long run. At Test & Protect Services Ltd, we prefer to be upfront and honest from the start.
Our pricing works as follows: we have a standard initial fee of £45.00, which covers the testing of the first 25 items. This fee is based on being located within the green are of the map below.
For locations outside this area, additional charges may apply.
Outside the Green zone? No problem.
For locations outside our standard service area, an additional travel charge may apply to cover extra mileage and travel time. We’ll always confirm and agree the cost with you before your booking is confirmed.

What Counts as an Item?
When it comes to PAT testing, an “item” is a piece of electrical equipment or a detachable component that is connected to the mains.
If you unplug it and it stops working, it is mains powered and may need to be included in your PAT testing.
One piece of equipment can contain several items
Some electrical equipment is made up of separate, detachable parts. Each detachable part is counted as a separate item and will be inspected, tested where required, labelled and recorded.
For example:
A PC and its detachable IEC power lead = 2 items
A laptop power supply and its detachable power lead = 2 items
A kettle, detachable base and power lead = 3 items
How many items do you have?
It's easy to underestimate the number of items in a workplace.
For example, if you have 20 desks, each with a PC or laptop, monitor and extension lead, you could already have 100 or more items to test — and that's before counting equipment such as printers, shredders, laminators and kitchen appliances.
20 desks × 5 items = 100 items
The total can quickly increase once you include all the electrical equipment throughout your workplace.

PAT Testing Pricing & Packages
Standard Service Package: £45
Includes testing for your first 25 standard items.
Free minor repairs included for all standard equipment (plug re-wiring, correct fuse replacement, etc.).
Additional Item Rates
Standard Equipment: £1.25 + VAT per extra item.
Industrial Equipment (110V / 230V / 400V): £2.50 + VAT per item.
Microwave Emissions Testing: £5.00 per unit (in addition to standard PAT inspection).
Repairs & Travel
Industrial / Commando Repairs: £5.00 per repair (plus replacement parts where necessary).
Travel Charges: A small supplementary travel fee applies for locations outside our core ‘Green Zone’.
